Summer Internships

Summer Internships

About Our Summer Internships

In addition to post-graduation year-long fellowships, PiA offers summer internship opportunities to Princeton University undergraduates.

The emphasis of a PiA internship is cultural immersion and contributing to the communities where our Fellows are placed. We select Fellows who are committed to furthering our mission of fostering mutual appreciation and cross-cultural understanding between the United States and Asia. Successful applicants are those who seek a transformative experience, want to contribute to their host organization, facilitate cultural exchange through relationship building, and demonstrate personal and professional readiness to function effectively in a foreign living and work environment.

PiA summer internships are 8-10 week immersive experiences with select host organizations in Asia. Summer interns earn a stipend to cover housing and living expenses, and receive funding for round-trip airfare and visa costs.

APPLICATION

Applications for Summer 2023 internships open on February 21, and close on March 19. PiA staff will hold interviews with finalists in late March.

You can find the online application here

PiA’s application, selection, and placement processes are rigorous and multifaceted. In normal circumstances, our placement process requires patience and flexibility on the part of all involved. Due to the extraordinary circumstances brought on by COVID-19 and the resulting uncertainties, we know this will require even more patience, flexibility and adaptability. We attempt to offer interviews only to those applicants who stand a reasonable chance of being placed; however, being granted an interview does not guarantee placement.

When completing your application, please save your progress as often as possible by clicking the SAVE button on the bottom of the form.

ELIGIBILITY

PiA internships are open to Princeton University undergraduate students in any year of study prior to graduation. In addition:

  • All positions require professional proficiency in English, and may require native or near-native English-speaking ability. Host countries’ visa restrictions may limit our ability to place citizens of certain nationalities.

  • All applicants should have a valid passport by the time they accept their internship offer. For visa purposes, your passport should be valid for 6 months beyond your date of departure from Asia. If you do not have a passport or your passport will expire soon, we encourage you to apply for or renew your passport now.

OUR PROCESS

After receiving applications, we ensure each one is complete and all materials have been submitted.

After confirming by March 20, 2023, that all application materials have been collected, we read and evaluate each application holistically. Our application seeks to help us understand applicants’ commitment to carrying out PiA’s mission and upholding PiA’s values, applicants’ personal and professional readiness to function effectively in a foreign living and work environment, and the skills, experiences, and strengths interns will bring to their host organizations. We invite a portion of applicants to interview and inform those not selected for an interview in late March.

In matching applicants with potential internships, PiA staff take into account applicants’ preferences, skills, and experiences. Applicants invited for an interview will be asked to schedule a time for a virtual interview with PiA staff. Host organizations may take part in interviews

After completing interviews, we work carefully to consider each interviewee’s experience, interests, motivations, and skills in order to make the strongest matches for both the interviewee and the host organization. PiA works with host organizations to make the final selection of interns. PiA then extends a formal internship offer to the selected candidates. Candidates have four calendar days to accept or decline the internship offer.

Please see the detailed information below for internship details and important dates in the application and selection process.
