Fellowship Year:

Chisato is thrilled for her second year in Laos!  Since arriving in this beautiful country one year ago, she has learned to cycle through dead heat and monsoon, hustle through jungles Rambo-style, kill three mosquitoes in one fist, and steer cars on winding mountain roads without hitting the chickens and water buffalo.  Laid back Lao People Don’t Rush (Lao PDR) has brought new meaning to “go with the flow” and patience and especially when it comes to the sloth-slow, indecisive drivers.  Chisato enjoys working at IUCN Lao with many interesting environmental issues ranging from forest governance policy to rural community livelihoods.  She looks forward to continuing her studies with Lao language, exploring more of the countryside and living a fulfilling life among the “people of the heart”.
