Patrick Douglas

June 22, 2005

Patrick was born and raised in Washington, DC.  After graduating from Cornell, he took on a number of jobs in DC and New York but failed to find eternal happiness in the Big Apple.  Hoping to find greater fulfillment abroad, he accepted a PiA fellowship in Wuhan, China, where he spent the next year teaching university students from the Hubei countryside.  Although many of his western friends in Wuhan grumbled about the the weather, the pollution, and the absence of good bars, Patrick enjoyed the place.  He spent his days studying the language, exploring the city’s attractions (which included a Buddhist Temple and a car factory), having dinner with students, and bowling every week with friends.  By the end of the year, he had developed a strong affection for the country and its people, which led to his decision to extend his stay in China.  For his second year, Patrick will be working at the Foreign Affairs University in Beijing, where he will teach oral English and Foreign Policy.
