Dan White

January 22, 2005

Dan White, former student of philosophy, stonecutter, rock drummer, and barista is currently making the unlikely transition from the mountains of Eastern Tennessee to the rainy Mekong Delta. While friends back home are struggling with grad school or wondering what to do after college, he's riding his bike between rice fields in the countryside, taking a day trip to the Cambodian border, bargaining for fruit in the marketplace, and eating some of the best (and strangest) food he's ever tasted. When he's not teaching Listening and Speaking or American Culture to English Majors at Can Tho University, he can often be found visiting the street children at one of the orphanages (their favorite game is 5 on 1 arm wrestling).  Recently, Dan and Jon Edelson, other PiAer at Can Tho, hosted the annual Princeton Day celebration in memory of Carrie Gordon and her work in the Delta. He is constantly moved by the warmth, friendliness, and generosity of the people that he has encountered in this beautiful country.
