Anne Kern

February 22, 2005

Anne Kern first came to China in the summer of 2002 to teach English as a PiA intern and was immediately wowed by the place. She completed a major in East Asian Studies at Princeton, focusing on early modern China and studying language. After graduating in 2004, she took off for Hangzhou, China to teach for a year, and last summer, she moved to Beijing to work for WildChina, a local travel company specializing in trips off-the-beaten path. Since coming to WildChina, she's led highschool kids to Ming Dynasty cities and American NGO groups to rural parts of China. In the office, she's digging into regional ecotourism and responsible travel issues. Around town, she works at a local Women and Children's Hospital and enjoys strolling both the broad avenues and old neighborhoods of Beijing, always a feast for the senses. She is grateful to PiA for cultivating and supporting her love for Chinese language, culture, and people over the past several years.
