After coming up on a year of working at the Naz Foundation, an HIV/AIDS advocacy, care and support NGO, Sareeta is pumped for her second year of adventures in New Delhi – a place she still can’t believe has become her home away from home. Sareeta had expected to gain valuable knowledge about public health while working at Naz, but she was surprised to discover that being a part of the loving Naz family is what has made this past year invaluable. More than any apartment in Delhi, her office is her true home, complete with her friendly coworkers, over 40 energetic Care Home children and 3 large dogs. Even when proposal/award/newsletter due dates seem to all fall on the same date, Sareeta welcomes sharing giggles and playing games with the children who trickle into the office to say hello.
As this is her first experience living abroad, she is proud to have championed the heat, the dust, the power outages and even the autos! Though at times she misses the reliability of America, Sareeta still finds it fascinating that life in Delhi seems to have a life of its own! Nothing in the bustling city is muted; not the weather, or the spices, or the noises, or the emotions it elicits. Dealing with the difficulties and differences of Delhi pale in comparison to the experiences and excitement this past year has brought Sareeta, and she can’t wait to jump into another!
