After 3 years at Can Tho University, she returned to her hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Inspired by the environmental and agricultural engineering projects run by CTU in the Mekong Delta, she enrolled in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Ohio State University and got a second bachelor’s degree, specializing in water and wastewater treatment. She currently works at a specialty chemical company on projects related to water and wastewater disinfection using low-cost, energy-independent methods. For the past two years, she has spent a lot of time with Le Huu Ly, a teacher at CTU, who is studying for his master’s degree in education at Southern Illinois University and often visits Columbus on vacations. The photograph is of Ly and her at the Detroit Marathon and Half Marathon this past October. She ran the full marathon and Ly ran his first ½ marathon ever. The marathon crossed into Windsor, Canada for a few miles, so Ly got to add another country to his list of international visits. Not only did he run very well, he took time to document his experience on the racecourse with his ever-present camera!
